Community Garden Vision

Our North Star

Across its five boroughs — between its rooftops, balconies, and underused sidewalk — New York has 50 Central Parks (three Manhattans) worth of unused space!

We're bringing New Yorkers on a lighthearted moonshot to rewild it all — one tiny garden at a time (and we want you to join us!)

Why? We think feeling connected — our land and each other — feels good! We want it to be easier to feel that way in the city.

I have not seen a serious tree. I have not seen a serious bird. I have not seen a serious sunrise. I have not seen a serious starry night. It seems they are all laughing in their own ways, dancing in their own ways. We may not understand it, but there is a subtle feeling that the whole existence is a celebration.
- Osho

(What he said!)

Without the stories or practices to remind us of that wisdom — or the raw wilderness to spur the intuition within us – it's too easy to forget our place in it all, to take ourselves a bit too seriously, and to miss the miracles (big and small) that surround us.

Our vision of New York is light, easy, playful, and connected, where bite-sized interactions with nature are woven into our daily lives – not at some fenced away park or community garden – but right at home. A New York where unused space is transformed into rooftop farms, lush balconies, and street-long gardens.

Our plan to get there is ambitious but simple.

We're creating a new sort of distributed community garden.

Gardening might not be your cup of tea – some people love it and others not so much – but we're confident 10x more people would participate if it wasn't so inconvenient. So, rather than getting people to meet at a fixed space, we're converting everyday space throughout the city – balconies, terraces, unused sidewalks, and more – into gardening beds, sending folks all the materials they need, and creating a distributed community.

Our instinct is that – by delivering a delightful gardening experience that meets people where they are – we can both help reinstill our relationship with nature and rewild the city while we're at it.

A delightful, connected, nature-filled city is within reach.

We're excited to grow it together.
